Halloween Stories for Free!

Autumn is here which means Halloween isn’t too far behind.

As some of you may know, I love Halloween tales. I particularly enjoy writing simple and silly Halloween stories with and for my boys.

Some people give plates of holiday treats or sing carols at your door.  We create silly tales and share them with our friends.  It makes us happy and it is our holiday tradition.  And it saves you from having to hear us sing.  Which we can't do.  Seriously.  It's awful.  Take a story instead.

We would like to share our stories with you.  From now until October 15th, you can get free Halloween adventures.

Below is a description of the stories and a little bit about who the story might be best suited for.  Shoot me an email, reply below, or text me to let me know what you would like.

If you are not local, please include your address so I know where to send your Halloween treat (or trick!).

Children's Stories for Little Ones

Creatures and Creepies
Creatures and Creepies is a Halloween counting story.  Children enjoy counting the pictures on each page.  Creatures and Creepies is six half pages and laminated to withstand drool.  Illustrated with clip art.  Appropriate for children aged one year to three years.

The House on the Hill
The House on the Hill is a rhyming story about the creatures of a house as they prepare for a fun Halloween party.  The House on the Hill is ten quarter pages.  Illustrated with clip art. Appropriate for children aged two to five years.

Children's Stories for Medium Ones

In the Graveyard
In the Graveyard is a rhyming story about the creatures that roam the graveyard.  In the Graveyard is six half pages.  Illustrated with clip art.  Appropriate for children aged four to seven years.  Sort of.  I mean, who lets their four year old read about ghosts in a graveyard?

Pumpkin Masquerade
Pumpkin Masquerade is a rhyming story about four little pumpkins who are dressing up for a Halloween masquerade.  Pumpkin Masquerade is eight full pages.  It used to come with stickers that the kids could use to 'dress' the pumpkins as the story is told but...no longer.   Illustrated with clip art.  This story has a lot more ‘story’ to it and is probably especially appropriate for older children between three and seven years.

Quivering Quimby
Quivering Quimby is a story about a ghost who is scared of every bump and thump in the night and the calm spider who helps him to see the goodness in the darkness.  Quivering Quimby is sixteen full pages and is illustrated by clip art.   Quivering Quimby is appropriate for children from three to seven years.  Updated from last year.

Naughty Neville
Naughty Neville is an inappropriate children's story about a little boy who delights in making mischief all night long on Halloween.  Naughty Neville wreaks havoc and gets away with it...or does he?

Naughty Neville is sixteen full pages and is illustrated with clip art.  I would love to tell you what ages this is appropriate for but...while it is a fun read, it is not exactly...responsible.  The boys think it is hilarious...and I do too.
Because we, apparently, have twisted senses of humor.

Young Adult and Adult Stories

Grimmton
Grimmton is a despicable children’s story that is utterly and completely inappropriate for children.  It ought not to be attempted by anyone really.

Seeing someone take their little sister Emerald, two brothers, Phineas and Quimby, embark on a daring and dangerous adventure in the town of Grimmton to try to rescue their little jewel.

I wrote this short story because I was a little tired of the happy Halloween stories.  I wanted to read something dark and perilous, filled with repulsive Halloween creatures, and brave little boys (that remind me of my own).

The story is seventeen full pages and includes six chapters and an epilogue.  It is not for children and I cannot imagine any adult wanting to reach such a despicable tale.  But there it is.  Order it if you dare...

A Novel Existence
According to Lilliana, it's true love.  Except her chosen guy is well...still living...and she is technically not.

A Novel Existence is a short, young adult story in eleven full pages.

Fenton and Belina
What if you could see your loved ones after death?  What if it was just for a short time?

Fenton and Belina is a short story in six full pages with two chapters.

*Note:  None of these stories is perfect.  Most, if not all, probably contain rhyming, grammar, and punctuation errors.  They are simply meant to amuse - not to win precision awards.

Get your order in soon so you can enjoy reading these stories before Halloween!

Pumpkin Artist

This kid can make anything out of paper.  While making pumpkins out of paper is not unique, I am always pleasantly surprised when he just sits down with paper and scissors to create.

If he grows up to be my 'tortured' artist child, I will not be shocked.

Picture Day at School

Four wants to keep his hair a little longer.  I have agreed as long as he controls it.

So he did his hair for picture day.

I am allowed to gel Five's hair only a few times a year.  I claim picture day as one of 'my' days to control his tresses.  He looks pretty dang adorable when he lets me get my hands on him.

First Haircut

Baby was starting to grow a mullet in the back.  He is still sparse on top but he was getting crazy old man hair.  After repeated hints by my husband, I agreed to cut baby's hair.

Which is easier said than done, as he is a bit of a wiggly baby.

Baby to Five: Hey, you don't mind if I suck on your toothbrush while mom cuts my hair, do you?
Five, who is extremely persnickety, decided to just gift his toothbrush to Baby after this travesty.
Baby was happy to keep chewing and sucking.

I trimmed his hair as best as can be done as he is moving from side to side.  This morning I noticed a a few spots I missed.  Maybe I will wait to fix until he goes to bed.  A sleeping baby has to be more still than an awake baby.

Five the Creator

Five is very creative.

He made this paper sword...

and a minecraft head all on his own.  I love his little mind.

Harry Potter's Mini-Me

Still trying to figure out how to cast spells from the 'wand'.

Park Play Day

It is still sunny and warm here.  Baby and I took advantage of the warm sunshine at playgroup the other day.

Working Hard...or Hardly Working?

Baby was very intent on working on his little computer the other day.

And of course, he expects applause after every new trick.  Alright.  I'll bite.  Clap, clap, clap!

Book Sitter

Just take a seat anywhere, Kid.

Baby likes books.  He is very good at turning the pages and he likes looking at the pictures.

And apparently he likes sitting on them as well...

Bugging Brother

Five was in the last chapter or two of a book he was enjoying.

Baby was getting all up in his business about it.

Hey, what are you reading?
Any good?
Does it have pumpkins?
Because the picture has pumpkins.
So I was just wondering if the picture was accurate.
Are the pumpkins cute?

Hey!
Can you hear me?
I hear the main character dies.

Then the minute Five reacted to Baby, Baby sat back and pretended that he had just been all over Five's bubble.  It was really, really funny to watch.

Piano Brothers

Haunted Cemetery

This year we put the haunted cemetery up where Baby couldn't attack it.

Not a worry.  He climbed up and over the back of the couch to attack the headstones and coffins.

Sigh.

This is what it looks like when Baby hasn't recently cruised through the neighborhood.

Throwback

This is the last of the throwback photos that I will share from the package I got.

My baby sister, L, sitting on my first car.  She was soooo cute!

My only older sister in the entire world.  S is one year older and so I was always the younger tag-along sister.

Fun fact about this chair.  It spun.  So my sisters and I would take turns riding or pushing it around in circles until the rider got extremely dizzy.  It was a very entertaining chair.

Me.  As a cute little brunette.  (Although my hair was lighter here than normal due to the sun.)  And this was pre-braces.  Thank the heavens for the miracle of braces.

And I find this to be an interesting shot because A is clearly dressed like a tomboy and E is crafting.  Some things never change...

(Fun fact.  E is wearing a homemade dress.)

I like this shot of S.

And this shot makes me dead envious.  My sister has natural red hair (strawberry-blonde).  And, as an adult, she blondes it out!  Not that she doesn't look great as a blonde...she does.  But who gets rid of beautiful red hair?!  I am very red hair covetous.

Me.  On a horse.  We used to go on horseback rides for group activities with our friends.  $20 for a couple of hours.  Wonder what it would cost now.

Me.  Clearly leaving work to go hang out with friends.  I loved that bag.  And that necklace.  Sigh.

E.  With a check for something.  Whatever it was, I like this shot of her.  She's beautiful.  And that is her natural hair color.  Yes.  Even though she goes way red now, she has some actual red to back it up with.  Me...uh...not so much.

My junior prom dress.  I loved this dress.  It was lent to my mom sight unseen and it ended up fitting perfectly.  The shoes went away long ago, but I still have this necklace.

S and I went together with some guy friends.
At the time I was sad that my hair was too short for a prom up do.  Now I look back and love the curls I came up with.

My senior prom dress.  I called this my mermaid dress.  To keep it modest I had a little black shrug.

Growing up, we had a dollhouse with tiny furniture and fixtures.  This is a picture of the dollhouse after the 1994 Northridge earthquake.

We were a short way from the epicenter.  A freeway fell down, we had no water for a full week, and my high school gym was razed to the ground due to damage and asbestos.  So I had gym for three years in a giant tent that looked like a silver hershey's kiss.

Let's play the game "One of these does not look like the others..."

And again...

If I had to guess why A is so ticked, it is because she was forced to wear a dress to S's graduation.  And I seem to be rubbing it in.

On another note...is your drink big enough A?

Me and my boyfriend, Mr. Isaak.  Ok.  M old dream boyfriend.  (And for the record this picture was taken before I started dating Husband.)  I've seen him in concert many times.  He rocks it every show.

Playing dress up with a non-girly sister.

Who eventually did this.  Hahahaha!

A on one of our ice blocking trips.

My boys really want to go.  I have no problem with that.  Except that ice blocks are harder to buy now than they were 15-20 years ago.  And finding a nice grassy hill that is private property and will give permission is harder too.

I won't say where this was.  But let's just say that it was a great hill that we used many times.

E and A.  Visiting me at college.

E and me.

I really miss that sweater.  It was so specific that I didn't wear it a lot and I am sure that it probably would not fit me right now but...still miss it.

And for the other snappy dresser, E, she is wearing a great skirt.  Seriously cute.

Probably one of the only pictures that exists of me and the eyebrow ring.  If you look closely, you can see a tiny hint of it nearest E.  It was the only thing remotely rebellious that I did.  And I got permission before I did it.  So...rebel fail.

Husband and Me.  When we were dating.  This was at my grandpa's retirement party at Benihanas.

And this is me looking kind of scary.  Seriously...what is up with my hand?

Me and some of my sisters.  I believe we were celebrating my 19th birthday.  Or possibly 18th.

Husband and Me.  About an hour after we got married.

And that was the tour of the old pics.

As I was putting this together, two of my sons, came in and told me that I looked weird.  They were referring to the pics of me and sisters.  "What do you mean?" I asked.  "You don't match them," they explained.  Huh.  So I am not the only one to see it.
